Elbert Arch
Hamilton
ARCHDALE – Elbert Arch Hamilton, age 71, died July
14, 2008 at High Point Regional Hospital.
A native of Archdale, he was born September 7, 1936 a son to the late
Ernest Layton Hamilton and the late Lurline Hollemon Hamilton. Elbert was a
lifelong member of Green Street Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the class
of 1954 at Trinity High School. Elbert married Doris Gossett on November 30,
1957 who survives of the home. He graduated from Jones Business College in
1956, and studied business for two years at High Point College. He started a
career in insurance with State Farm Insurance in 1961. After a short time with
The Home Insurance Company, he started work with Central Insurance Company as a
District Manager in where he would remain until his retirement 33 years later,
in 1995. He was also a former part-time instructor for Randolph Community
College. Elbert was a volunteer firefighter and former Assistant Chief of Guil-Rand
Fire Department from 1951 to 1973. He was a former Board Member of Guil-Rand
Fire Protective Association and a member of the Guil-Rand Rescue Squad. More
recently, Elbert was a member of Hillsville Ruritan Club, Southern 1752 Club,
Piedmont Chapter of the Society of Charter Property and Casualty Underwriters,
Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, and Tar Heel Section of the Mercedes
Benz Club of America. He was a very social person that never met a stranger.
Elbert enjoyed auto racing and helped support local race teams. He also enjoyed
saltwater fishing, camping, and traveling. Elbert was a loving husband, father,
grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years Doris Hamilton of the home;
daughter, Sherri Hamilton Austin and husband Bill of Archdale; son Arch Layton
Hamilton and wife Laurie of Archdale; three grandchildren Hannah and Sarah
Austin, and Andrew Hamilton.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday
night at Cumby Family Funeral Chapel at Archdale. Funeral services will be held
at 1:00 PM Thursday at Green Street Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Hensley and
Rev. Dana McKim officiating. Burial will be in Floral Garden Memorial Park
following the service.
